No snow for Christmas?

Well, it's looking like there'll be no snow this Christmas. The weather's still quite mild so I think it's quite safe to say there will be no white fluffy stuff falling this Christmas day (tomorrow).

As I am writing this, I wonder whether anybody actually does (or will) read this post...

Anyway, snow or no snow, I wish everyone an amazing Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Cold weather returns

Freezing temperatures have returned this week. We've had no snowfall yet but the frost left overnight has led to slippery surfaces where no grit has been used.

The street lights on Hillbury road have had a few problems recently, so there's been potentially icy dark paths that could have been really treacherous!

I'm still checking the MetOffice site every morning and afternoon for snowy weather but all there's been is fog, rain and icy surfaces across the UK.

During the evening of the 11th, I attempted to melt the ice in the hose pipe... The hot kettle water soon froze, to my slippery surprise! This resulted in me shoving the hose pipe on the end of the steam cleaner nozzle. This soon melted all the ice. To bad there's a split now.

Hoping for snow this winter.

The meltdown

Fallen snow from earlier is pretty much gone, as if no snow fell at all. All services running as normal. Cold weather still persists with ice forming in some areas.
Will tomorrow be like today? I hope so!

First blog snow!

Snow snow and more snow.

This morning, heavy snow fell, disrupting travel. London was less affected (there was NO snow in London). Despite seeing the white fluffy stuff, drivers still took the risk to go out in the snow by car.

On Tithe Pit Shaw Lane, there was a small two-car collision which the police attended. I am unsure as to whether the road was closed due to the weather alone or it was prompted by the collision. Vehicles still travelling down the hill after closure were faced with ice rink-like road conditions. Wheels locked up under braking slightly, prompting drivers to be extra careful and go slowly down the hill.

Warlingham school (at the time of writing) is open, with students going to various halls allocated by year. This is due to enough teachers struggling to get in to do a day's teaching. Never know - school may close early today.

I have uploaded a video to YouTube, but since I'm jot at a computer right now I can't make a direct link. You can see my YouTube channel by using my username alexferriroli. More videos are to come (maybe).

I've attached a crude picture I just took through a window before it got fogged up.

Warming up.

Oh Dear!
The weather's taken rather a different approach from what I had in mind... Temperatures up to 9C today! Looks as if this blog's going to need to hibernate for a while... In the meantime, check out the snow and ice picture gallery!

The Cold.

It's getting rather chilly now. The Met Office has no severe weather warnings for snow in place for us at the moment. However, there is a Level 1 Cold Weather Alert in place for Southeast and Southwest England, West Midlands and London with other places Level 2 or above.
Basically, the Met Office seems to be saying that there is no immediate risk of cold / icy / snowy weather right now but it is awfully cold outside.
